About Hoyo Soplador
The Hoyo Soplador is located on the southern tip of San Andrés, a few meters from the sea edge, on a stretch of coral rock. It is a natural hole connected to the sea by underground tunnels: when a wave enters forcefully, water and air are pushed through those tunnels and exit the hole in a jet that can rise several meters, with a blowing sound.
The height of the jet depends on the sea and the tide. On days with strong waves and east wind it tends to be higher and more frequent; when the sea is calm, sometimes you only hear the air passing. Visitors usually gather around, waiting for the next blow to take photos.
Around the site there are stalls selling drinks, coconut water and handicrafts, and there is a view of the south coast with the reef in the distance. The Hoyo Soplador is a classic stop on the island loop, between West View and the beaches of San Luis.
