About Museo Regional de Ica Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins

The Museo Regional de Ica Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins, administered by the Ministry of Culture, houses the archaeological collection of the department of Ica, one of Peru's regions with the most coastal culture sites. It is named after a local scholar who helped build the collection.

The best-known rooms are those of the Paracas culture, with fragments of embroidered mantles, mummified bodies and elongated, trepanned skulls that show surgeries performed on the skull more than 2,000 years ago, often with signs of healing. The Nazca culture appears in polychrome pottery, with figures of animals, plants and mythical beings in various colors, and in cotton and wool textiles.

The museum also has pieces from the Wari, Ica-Chincha and Inca cultures, metal objects and a room about the colonial and republican periods. In the garden, a model of the Nazca Lines shows the figures to scale, which helps prepare for the overflight.

The visit is relaxed and can be done in just over an hour. The captions are in Spanish. The museum usually closes on some holidays: check the hours before you go.
