Puerto Montt
Puerto Montt is the capital of the Región de Los Lagos, founded in 1853 on the shores of the Seno de Reloncaví to receive German settlers. It is the air gateway to the destination and the starting point for Chiloé and Patagonia. The visit includes the Plaza de Armas de Puerto Montt, with its wooden cathedral; the Caleta Angelmó, with its market and seafood stalls; and the Parque Nacional Alerce Andino.

Ancud
Ancud is the first town for those arriving in Chiloé by the Canal de Chacao ferry. Founded in 1768 as San Carlos de Chiloé, it was the archipelago's capital and the last Spanish stronghold in Chile. Fuerte San Antonio and the Museo Regional de Ancud tell that story, and the town is a base for seeing the penguins of the Puñihuil islets and the Chepu wetlands.

Castro
Castro is the capital of the province of Chiloé and one of the oldest cities in Chile, founded in 1567. In the Plaza de Armas stands the Igreja de San Francisco, a wooden church and UNESCO World Heritage site. The palafitos of Gamboa and Pedro Montt line the fjord, and the Museo de Arte Moderno de Chiloé occupies the higher part of the Parque Municipal. The town is a base for Dalcahue, Achao, Parque Nacional Chiloé and the Muelle de las Almas.

Frutillar
Frutillar is a small town on the western shore of Lago Llanquihue, founded by German settlers in 1856 and known for music. In Frutillar Bajo, by the bay, are the Teatro del Lago, host of the Semanas Musicales, the Museo Colonial Alemán de Frutillar and the Costanera de Frutillar, with wooden houses, kuchen cafés and views of four volcanoes.

Puerto Varas
Puerto Varas is on the south shore of Lago Llanquihue and was founded by German settlers in the mid-19th century. From the Costanera of Puerto Varas you can see Volcán Osorno across the lake, and atop the town center is the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. To the east are the slopes of Volcán Osorno, the Saltos del Petrohué and Lago Todos los Santos.
