About Biocentro Güembé

Biocentro Güembé is in Urubó, on the other side of the rio Piraí, about 7 km from downtown Santa Cruz. It is a private nature and leisure park with forested areas, lagoons and gardens, popular with city families on weekends.

The highlight is the butterfly house, a large greenhouse where thousands of regional butterflies fly, bred in the park itself, with a laboratory that shows the life cycle from egg to butterfly. The orchidarium houses hundreds of orchid species from the Bolivian Oriente. There are also aviaries with macaws and toucans, a fish nursery and areas with turtles and other animals.

Short trails cross the native forest, with signs identifying the trees, and lead to lagoons and viewpoints. For the heat, the park has several pools and rest areas, as well as a restaurant.

It's a half-day to full-day outing. Bring swimwear, sunscreen and insect repellent. Check opening hours and activities before you go.
