About Saltos del Monday
The Saltos del Monday are located in the district of Presidente Franco, about 10 km from the center of Ciudad del Este, near where the Monday River flows into the Paraná. The fall is about 40 meters high and 120 meters wide, with three main drops and several smaller cascades.
The waterfall sits inside a municipal park of roughly 9 hectares, with a remnant of the Atlantic Forest of Alto Paraná around it. Walkways and viewpoints show the falls head-on and from above, with mist rising from the canyon.
The water volume changes with the rains: after rainy periods the falls tend to be fuller and louder; in dry seasons the drops separate more. In winter, mornings often have mist over the river.
The place was part of a Guarani path before the arrival of the Spanish. Today it is one of the region's most visited attractions and can be combined with Ciudad del Este and Foz do Iguaçu in the same day.
