About Museo de Itaipu Tierra Guaraní
The Museo de Itaipu Tierra Guaraní is in Hernandarias, on the Paraguayan side of the Itaipu complex, a few kilometers from the plant. It is a natural history and cultural museum of the Alto Paraná region.
The rooms bring together archaeological pieces found in the area flooded by the reservoir, such as pottery and utensils of the Guarani peoples, as well as samples of the fauna, flora and minerals of the Paraná River basin. The exhibition helps to understand what the region was like before the dam and who lived there.
Near the museum is the Modelo Reducido, a scale model of the plant, the reservoir and the river's course, which is part of the same tourist complex.
The visit is relaxed and pairs well with going to the plant on the same day. Opening hours change; confirm before going.
