About Catedral San Blas
The Catedral San Blas is the main church of Ciudad del Este, dedicated to San Blas, patron saint of Paraguay. It was inaugurated on July 25, 1966, when the city was still young and growing with the arrival of workers from the region.
The design is by Bolivian architect Javier Querejazu. The modern building has a form that resembles a boat, with slanted lines and a spacious interior, different from the country's colonial churches.
The patron saint festival, on February 3, gathers worshippers from the city and the region. The rest of the year, the cathedral is a short stop for those passing through the center.
It is near Lago de la República, and the two pair well for an end-of-afternoon walk.
