Amboise
Amboise is a small town on the banks of the Loire, between Tours and Blois, dominated by the Château royal d'Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci's tomb is located. A few minutes' walk away is the Château du Clos Lucé, the house where the artist spent his last three years. About 12 km away is the Château de Chenonceau, spanning the river Cher, and at the town's outskirts is the Pagode de Chanteloup.

Blois
Blois is a hillside town on the Loire, with the Château royal de Blois at its center, the preferred royal residence in the Renaissance. Opposite the castle is the Maison de la Magie, dedicated to the magician Robert-Houdin, who was born in the town. Blois is a base for the Château de Chambord, about 16 km away, the Château de Cheverny and the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, with its garden festival.

Tours
Tours is the largest city in the Vale do Loire and the gateway for those arriving by train from Paris. The historic centre, the Vieux Tours, has half-timbered houses around Place Plumereau, the Cathédrale Saint-Gatien with 13th-century stained-glass windows and the Basilique Saint-Martin, which houses the tomb of São Martinho. Trains and roads run from the city to the castles of Villandry, Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais and Chinon.
