About El Poblado

El Poblado is in the southeast of the Valle de Aburrá and is the neighborhood where most visitors to Medellín stay. The name comes from the village of San Lorenzo de Aburrá, founded in 1616 where Parque El Poblado now stands, considered the starting point of the Spanish settlement of the valley. The area climbed the hillside with residential buildings, shopping centers and hotels.

The center of nightlife is Parque Lleras, a tree-lined square surrounded by bars, restaurants and nightclubs, and the neighboring streets. Nearby Provenza, on the streets that descend from the park, has cafés, design shops, contemporary Colombian restaurants and bars with terraces. During the day the neighborhood is calm, with tree-lined streets and specialty coffee shops.

Avenida El Poblado and Avenida Las Vegas concentrate shopping centers and offices; Poblado station on line A connects the neighborhood to downtown in about 15 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing apps work well for the hills.

For visitors, El Poblado is the base for sleeping, eating and going out at night; the main tourist sights are in other neighborhoods.
