Fira
Fira (Thira) is the capital of Santorini, on the rim of the caldera, about 260 meters above the sea. It concentrates the bus station from which buses depart to the whole island, the two archaeological museums, the cable car that descends to the old port, and the largest offering of shops, restaurants and accommodations. From the rim promenade you can see the volcano and the Kameni islets, and from there the trail to Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia departs. The town was rebuilt after the 1956 earthquake and mixes cave-houses, domed churches and hotels on the hillside.

Mykonos
Mykonos, or Chora, is the main town of the island of the same name, on the west coast, around the old port. It is a maze of pedestrian white alleys with domed churches, shops and bars, ending at the sea at Little Venice and the Kato Mili windmills. From there boats depart for Delos and buses go to the southern beaches and Ano Mera. Ferries arrive at the new port of Tourlos, 2 km away, and the airport is 4 km away.

Rodes
Rodes (Rodos) is the main town on the island of the same name, at the northern tip, and the largest in the Dodecanese. The medieval walled town, built by the Knights of São João between 1309 and 1522, is a World Heritage Site and houses the Palácio do Grão-Mestre, the Rua dos Cavaleiros and the old hospital, now the Museu Arqueológico. Outside, the port of Mandraki, with its windmills and the Forte de São Nicolau, evokes the Colossus of Rhodes; the Italian new town, Elli beach and the acropolis on Mount Smith complete the visit. It is the base for Lindos, the beaches of the east coast and the sites on the west coast.
