About Centre Juno Beach

The Centre Juno Beach is in Courseulles-sur-Mer, on Juno Beach, where Canadian troops landed on D-Day alongside the other Allied forces. It opened in 2003 thanks to a group of veterans and volunteers.

The idea arose in the 1990s, when former servicemen returned to Normandy with their families and noticed there were museums and monuments for Americans and British, but nothing equivalent for the Canadians.

The exhibition shows Canada's war effort, both civilian and military, and commemorates about 45,000 Canadians who died in World War II, of whom 5,500 fell in the Battle of Normandy and 381 on D-Day itself. Next to the building, Parc Juno preserves German bunkers that can be visited with a guide.

It's a visit that presents the landing from a different point of view, away from the American beaches, and is often less crowded.
