About Èze
Èze is a medieval village built on top of a rocky outcrop, between Nice and Mônaco, about 12 km from Nice. The stone houses, covered passages and stepped alleys were built for defense and today house workshops, shops and small hotels.
At the top is the Jardin exotique d'Èze, created after World War II over the ruins of the old castle. It brings together cacti and succulents among sculptures, and the view reaches the coast as far as cabo Ferrat and, on clear days, Córsega on the horizon. Entry to the garden is charged.
Below, on the seafront, is Èze-sur-Mer, with a train station. Connecting the two is the Chemin de Nietzsche, a steep stone path named after the philosopher, who used to walk it. The church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, with a classical façade, stands at the village entrance.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
Two to three hours in the village and the garden; half a day if you do the trail.
Best time
Early morning or late afternoon, outside coach tour times. In summer the village gets crowded.
How to get there
From Nice, Lignes d'Azur buses go up the road to the village entrance. By TER train, get off at Èze-sur-Mer and climb via the Chemin de Nietzsche, about an hour and a half uphill, or take a bus.
Tip
Do the Chemin de Nietzsche on the descent, which is less tiring, and bring water and sturdy footwear. The alleys have no car access and have many steps.
