About Halle de La Machine
La Halle de La Machine is the Toulouse home of the street theatre company La Machine, known for the giant machines that parade through cities. It is located in the Montaudran district, on the former aerodrome from which Aéropostale planes departed.
Around 200 performance machines are displayed in the shed, from mechanical insects to aviation-inspired creatures. The operators put several of them into motion in front of the public and explain how they work.
The star is Astérion, a wooden and steel Minotaur 14 metres high and weighing 47 tonnes, created for Toulouse. He walks along the Piste des Géants, the former aerodrome runway, carrying passengers on his back in rides that require a separate ticket.
Next door is the L'Envol des Pionniers area, dedicated to the history of Aéropostale and aviators such as Saint-Exupéry and Mermoz.
