How many days

Two days are enough to enjoy the beaches and spend a day at Parque de Santa Teresa and the fortress. With three days, include Laguna Negra and Fuerte de San Miguel, near Chuí.

When to go

From December to March the village fills up, especially with young people, and there are surf competitions. Out of season it is quiet and some businesses close. From June to August it is cold and windy. Southern right whales usually pass along the coast between July and October.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

In the village you get around on foot along the dirt streets. For Parque de Santa Teresa, Laguna Negra and Fuerte de San Miguel a car is convenient; there are buses on Ruta 9 that stop at the park entrance and in Chuí.
