About Sunnegga

Sunnegga sits at 2,288 m on a sunny slope east of Zermatt. It is reached by the Sunnegga Express, a funicular that runs entirely inside the mountain and climbs from the village in about 5 minutes.

Near the station is the Leisee, a lake with a hand-pulled ferry and the Wolli Adventure Park, a playground with slides, swings and water play areas. Swimming is allowed in the Leisee and in the Grünsee, another lake in the area. From the terrace, the Matterhorn faces you across the valley.

From Sunnegga a gondola climbs in about 7 minutes to Blauherd, at 2,571 m, the start of the five-lakes trail. From there a cable car takes you to Rothorn, at 3,103 m, in another 7 minutes, with views of the Matterhorn and the Monte Rosa massif.

The complex operates year-round. In the European winter, Sunnegga, Blauherd and Rothorn form one of Zermatt’s ski areas.
