About Verkehrshaus der Schweiz
The Verkehrshaus der Schweiz opened on 1 July 1959 on the lake shore, east of Lucerna’s center. It occupies about 20,000 m², with more than 3,000 objects, simulators and interactive areas.
Each pavilion deals with one mode of transport: rail, with steam and electric locomotives; roads, with cars, motorcycles and bicycles; aviation and space; navigation; and cable cars, an important theme in a mountainous country.
The planetarium has an 18 m dome. The Filmtheater shows documentaries on a large screen. The Swiss Chocolate Adventure is a ride in small cars about the origin, manufacturing and transport of chocolate. There is also a room dedicated to the Lucerna artist Hans Erni.
Outdoor areas and play equipment make the museum a full-day program with children.

Best time
Open year-round. On rainy days or when the mountains are clouded in, it's the best alternative. Arrive at opening time to avoid lines at the planetarium and simulators.
How to get there
It is about 3 km from the station. Take a regional train or bus to the Luzern Verkehrshaus stop, a boat to the museum pier, or walk along the lakeside in about 30 minutes.
Tip
Choose separate attractions in advance, such as the planetarium, the film and the chocolate experience, and plan the times: sessions are scheduled.
