About Bürgenstock e Hammetschwand-Lift
The Bürgenstock is a mountain jutting over Lake Lucerne, opposite the city. At the top there is a hotel complex, but the paths and viewpoints are open to visitors.
The classic way to reach it is by boat to Kehrsiten-Bürgenstock and then the 1888 funicular, which climbs in about 4 minutes. From the top the Felsenweg, a roughly 2.2 km path carved into the north-facing rock, takes about an hour with the lake below.
At the end of the path is the Hammetschwand Lift, from 1905, an external elevator that rises 153 m up the rock face, partly inside a metal tower. It reaches the top of the Hammetschwand, at 1,132 m, in less than a minute. A short path leads to the viewpoint.
The elevator and the Felsenweg are usually open from April to November and close in bad weather. Check operations before you go.
