How many days
A full day for Stonehenge in the morning and the cathedral with the Magna Carta in the afternoon. With one night, there's time left for Old Sarum, for the cathedral precinct, and for the river meadows.
When to go
From May to September the days are long and the Stonehenge plain is more pleasant. At the solstices, in June and December, there is a lot of activity around the stones. In winter it is cold and windy on the plain, but the cathedral and the museums remain open.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The centre is best explored on foot, and the tourist bus runs from the station to Stonehenge and Old Sarum. A car is useful for Avebury and for combining with Bath. Drive on the left.
