How many days
One day is enough to see the monastery of Santa Clara, the aqueduct, the main church, the Alfândega Régia with the nau, and the fort at the mouth of the Ave. Many people do a day trip from Porto. With more time, the town can be a base for the northern coastline beaches and for nearby Póvoa de Varzim.
When to go
From June to September it is usually cooler and rains less; it's the beach season, with cold Atlantic water. May and October are quieter. Winter is rainy and windy.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The metro links Vila do Conde with Porto and the airport, and the center, the quay and the river mouth can be done on foot. A car is only useful to reach the more distant beaches along the coast.
