Faro airport (FAO) is about 40 km to the west. Tavira Station is roughly 1 km from the center, on the Algarve line between Faro and Vila Real de Santo António. Confirm before booking.

How many days

One day is enough for the center, the castle and one island. With two days you can add Praia do Barril and Cacela Velha.

When to go

June to September is best for the island beaches. Spring and autumn are good for walking around town. The water on the eastern Algarve is usually a little less cold.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The center is walkable, and boats to the Ilha de Tavira depart from the quay. For Barril and Cacela Velha, a car, taxi or bus is convenient.
