Diekirch – Diekirch Destination Vianden and the Ardenas
How to get there
-
Aeroporto de Luxemburgo-Findel (LUX) Findel · 40 km
-
Gare de Diekirch (estação de trem) 1 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Check before booking. From the capital the train goes to Ettelbruck and from there a branch reaches Diekirch, about 40 minutes in total. By car it's about 35 km via the northern motorway. Buses to Vianden depart from here. There is no fare on public transport, only for first class on the train; confirm beforehand.
How many days
Half a day is enough for the Museu Nacional de História Militar. A full day can include Bourscheid Castle and the Patton museum in Ettelbruck, or a trip to Vianden, 13 km away.
When to go
The museum is open year‑round, and December and January, the anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes, usually feature ceremonies and events in the area. From May to September, walks through the Sûre valley and visits to Bourscheid are more pleasant. Check opening times before you go.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
It doesn't stop at the centre or the museum; they're about a 10‑minute walk from the station. For Bourscheid, a car helps: the castle sits atop the hill and public transport stops far away. Ettelbruck has train and bus services a few minutes away.
