About Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria

The Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria has occupied the upper floors of the Palazzo dei Priori since the late 19th century. It brings together the largest collection of Umbrian art, much of it coming from churches and convents closed during the Napoleonic period and after the unification of Italy.

The route follows a chronological order. It begins with painted crosses and medieval sculptures, passes through the Madonna by Duccio di Buoninsegna and reaches the Renaissance, with Piero della Francesca's polyptych of Saint Anthony and Beato Angelico's triptych.

The heart of the collection is 15th-century Umbrian painting: Pietro Vannucci, the Perugino, Raphael's master, and Bernardino di Betto, the Pinturicchio, appear in several rooms, alongside local artists such as Benedetto Bonfigli, who painted medieval Perúgia with its towers.

The final rooms reach the 18th and 19th centuries. Some rooms are kept cooler to preserve the works, and the museum often hosts temporary exhibitions.
