About Museo Claudio Faina
The Museo Claudio Faina occupies the Palazzo Faina on the Piazza del Duomo, right in front of the cathedral. The collection was assembled in the 19th century by Counts Mauro and Eugenio Faina and donated to the city by Claudio Faina, after whom the museum is named.
The collection is mainly Etruscan and Greek. There is a large collection of Attic black-figure and red-figure vases from the 6th and 5th centuries BC, many from the tombs of Orvieto, as well as bucchero vessels (the Etruscans' black glossy pottery), urns, bronzes and a collection of coins.
On the ground floor is the Museo Civico, with finds from the local area: the Venere di Cannicella, a Greek marble statue found in an Etruscan sanctuary of the Cannicella necropolis, terracottas from the Belvedere temple and a cippus with a warrior's head coming from the Necropoli del Crocifisso del Tufo.
From the upper floors, the palace windows offer a direct view of the Duomo façade, one of the best angles to see it head-on and from above.
