Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Check before booking. Travelers arriving by plane typically land in Palermo (PMO). From Palermo Centrale, regional trains reach Agrigento Centrale in about two hours, and intercity buses take a similar time. By car, the SS121/SS189 road links the two towns.
How many days
One full day for the Valle dei Templi, the museum and the Kolymbethra. With two days you can include the Scala dei Turchi and a night in the historic center on Via Atenea. Many people do Agrigento as a stop between Palermo and Siracusa or on the way to the island's east side.
When to go
March to June and September to November usually have pleasant temperatures for the temples, which have almost no shade. July and August are very hot: opt for the park's night openings. The almond trees typically bloom between January and March.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
For the Valle dei Templi you don't need a car: urban buses run from the station to the park entrances. For the Scala dei Turchi and the coastal beaches, a car is useful because there are few buses. The historic center, on the upper town, has narrow streets and a ZTL.
