Confirm before booking. From Rome, take the train to Bari. From Bari Centrale, FS Sud Est trains and buses reach Alberobello in about 1h30 to 2 hours, with fewer services on Sundays. From the station to the center it's about a 10-minute walk. By car it's about 55 km.
How many days
Half a day or a full day is enough for the Rione Monti, the Aia Piccola, the Trullo Sovrano and the basilica. Anyone staying overnight in a trullo can use the town as a base to visit Locorotondo, Martina Franca and the rest of the Valle d'Itria.
When to go
From April to June and from September to October the weather is usually good for walking the hills. July and August are hot and full of tour groups. At the end of September the feast of the patron saints takes place. In winter, from December to February, the cold is moderate and the town is quiet.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
It's not mandatory: there are trains and buses of FS Sud Est from Bari. A car makes it easier to combine Alberobello with Polignano a Mare, Locorotondo and the masserie of Valle d'Itria in the same day. The center has a ZTL (limited traffic zone): use the parking lots at the entrance to the town.
