About Syvota
Syvota is a small seaside village about 25 km south of Igoumenitsa, on the coast of Thesprotia. In front of the village is a group of islets covered in pines and olive trees, separated from the mainland by channels of green, transparent water. The name appears in history books: here the naval battle of Síbota was fought in 433 BC, between Corinth and Corcyra, today’s Corfu, one of the episodes that led to the Peloponnesian War.
The beaches are small coves, many with pebbles and sand, among pine trees. The most photographed is Bella Vraka, where a sand spit links the mainland to a small islet, with shallow water on both sides. Others, like Mega Ammos and Zavia, lie in the coves around the village. The channel between the islets, called Lagoa Azul, is the destination of boat trips.
At the village harbour are the sailing boats, tour boats and a row of tavernas and cafés. Rental boats, including small ones that don’t require a licence, take visitors to beaches only reachable by sea.
In summer the village fills up, especially in July and August, with Greeks and Italians arriving by ferry.
