The city

What to expect from Igoumenitsa.

Igoumenitsa is the port city of the Epiro, in northwest Greece, facing Corfu, and the capital of Tesprócia. Destroyed in World War II, it grew around the port from the 1950s: ferries from Italy arrive there and those to Corfu depart. It has a waterfront with cafés and the archaeological museum. To the north lies the beach of Drepano and, to the south, the coves and islets of Syvota. Inland, the Aqueronte River, the river of the dead in mythology, has springs with a trail through the water and, near its mouth, the Necromanteion. Greek is spoken.
