About Musée Rodin
The Musée Rodin is housed in the Hôtel Biron, an 18th-century mansion on rue de Varenne in the 7th arrondissement. Sculptor Auguste Rodin lived and worked there in his later years and donated his work to the French state. The museum opened in 1919.
Inside the house are marbles, bronzes, plasters and drawings, including The Kiss. One room is dedicated to Camille Claudel, a sculptor who was a pupil and collaborator of Rodin. There are also paintings from the artist's personal collection.
The garden is a central part of the visit. Among rose bushes and walkways stand The Thinker, The Gates of Hell and The Burghers of Calais, all in bronze. From the garden you can see the golden dome of the Invalides next door.
The museum has a second site in Meudon, in the southwest suburbs of Paris, at the Villa des Brillants, where Rodin lived and had his studio.
