About Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen
Founded shortly after the French Revolution, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen ranks among the oldest and most important fine arts museums in France outside Paris. It occupies a large building erected between 1877 and 1888 by the architect Louis Sauvageot.
The collections span from the late Middle Ages to contemporary art. There are works by Perugino, Caravaggio, Boucher, Delacroix, Géricault (born in Rouen), Monet and Modigliani, as well as sculptures, drawings and art objects.
The museum is known for its Impressionist holdings, one of the largest in France after the Musée d'Orsay. Among the paintings is one of Monet's versions of Rouen Cathedral.
Entry to the permanent collections is free; temporary exhibitions are charged separately. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and on some holidays.
