Maisons Satie
Houses where the composer Erik Satie was born in 1866, transformed into a route with music, scenography and humor, very much in the artist's style.

About Maisons Satie
The Maisons Satie are the houses where composer Erik Satie was born on 17 May 1866, author of the Gymnopédies. They are three 15th-century Normandy half-timbered houses, with facades and roofs protected as historic monuments since 1992 and bearing the Maisons des Illustres label.
Satie spent his childhood between Honfleur and Paris. Later he lived in Montmartre, played piano at the cabaret Le Chat Noir and mixed with Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Cocteau and Picasso.
The museum, opened in 1998, is not an ordinary exhibition: the visitor walks through rooms with scenography, odd objects and music, using headphones, on a route that plays with the composer's humor and eccentricities. At the entrance a notice jokes about the very idea of a museum.
It is a short and different visit, good for those who know or want to get to know Satie's music.
