About Musée Crozatier
The Musée Crozatier is Le Puy's museum, founded in 1820 and housed in a 19th-century building in the Jardin Henri-Vinay, to the south of the centre. It is an encyclopaedic museum in the spirit of cabinets of curiosities: it brings together painting and sculpture, archaeology, natural history, technical objects and decorative arts.
After eight years of works, the museum reopened with renewed galleries. Highlights include medieval art pieces linked to the cathedral, skeletons and animals from the natural history of the volcanic Velay region, and old machines and inventions.
One of the most visited parts is the bobbin-lace collection, the dentelle du Puy, a craft from the town mentioned since the 15th century, with historic pieces and explanations of the technique.
The Jardin Henri-Vinay around the museum is the town's central park, with ponds and trees, good for a rest before or after the visit.
