About Pont romain de Conques

The bridge over the Dourdou lies at the bottom of the valley, below the village of Conques. Despite the popular name "Roman bridge", it is medieval, built for pilgrims heading to Santiago. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage as one of the monuments on the Routes of Santiago in France.

The bridge has stone arches over the river, in a peaceful spot surrounded by woods. It is the way by which pilgrims on the Le Puy route leave Conques, then climb the slope on the other side toward Decazeville and Figeac.

To reach it you descend the village's cobbled streets, passing ancient gateways, half-timbered houses and slate roofs. The return is a steep climb.

From the bridge, looking up, you can see the village on the hillside, with the abbey's towers.
