About Le Suquet

Le Suquet is the old town of Cannes, on the hill to the west of the bay, above the Vieux Port. It was the fishing village that existed before holidaymakers arrived in the 19th century. The streets wind up in curves and steps to the top, with old houses and restaurants.

At the top are the church of Notre-Dame d'Espérance, in Provençal Gothic style, and the Place de la Castre, with the medieval tower and the ruins of the castle that once belonged to the monks of Lérins. The esplanade in front of the church overlooks the bay, the Croisette and the Îles de Lérins.

The castle houses the Musée des Explorations du Monde, formerly the Musée de la Castre, with objects from the Himalayas, the Arctic, pre-Columbian America and Oceania, as well as 19th-century landscape paintings. From the museum's tower you reach another viewpoint over the city.

At the foot of the hill is the Marché Forville, Cannes's covered market, and the rue Meynadier, a pedestrian street with shops and grocery stores.
