About Maison Mumm
Mumm was founded in Reims in 1827 and is located on the rue du Champ-de-Mars, north of the center, near the Porte de Mars and the Musée de la Reddition. It is the easiest champagne house to visit for those arriving by train, because it's a short walk from the Gare de Reims.
The visit is led by guides from the house and goes down into the cellars carved into the chalk, where bottles age in rows and stacks. The tour explains the stages of champagne production, from the harvest to aging, and usually ends with a tasting. There are different formats, from shorter tours to ones with more wines or food pairings.
The cellars are cool year-round, so it's worth bringing a jacket. The house also has vineyards on the Montagne de Reims, where the Moulin de Verzenay, an old windmill above the vines, is located.
Together with the Porte de Mars and the Musée de la Reddition, Mumm makes a walking route through north Reims that fits into a morning or an afternoon.
