About Maison Moët & Chandon
Moët & Chandon was founded in 1743 and is headquartered on the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. It is the largest champagne producer in the region, with over a thousand hectares of its own vineyards, and its history is intertwined with that of the avenue itself.
The guided tour descends into the caves, dug into the chalk between 10 and 30 meters below ground. There are kilometers of galleries where the bottles age under stable temperature and humidity conditions. During the tour, the guide explains the stages of champagne production and the house's connection to Dom Pérignon, the monk from neighboring Hautvillers.
Above ground, the headquarters has a courtyard and gardens facing the avenue, and on the other side lie the historic residences linked to the house. The visit usually ends with a tasting, in formats ranging from one to several glasses.
The caves are part of the Avenue de Champagne ensemble, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015 as part of the Banks, Houses and Caves of Champagne.
