About Maison Mercier
Mercier was founded in Épernay in 1858 by Eugène Mercier and is located at the end of the Avenue de Champagne. The visit is different from others in the region and is often popular with families with children.
The tour begins with an audiovisual presentation about the house's history. Then panoramic elevators descend about 30 meters underground, where visitors board a little train that runs through part of the 18 km of galleries excavated in the chalk. Commentary is provided via audio guide, and you can choose the language.
Mercier's galleries total about 18 km, excavated in the chalk plain beneath the avenue. Today the house cultivates around 576 hectares of vineyards in the region.
The visit ends with a tasting. The cellars are part of the Avenue de Champagne ensemble, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2015.
