About Musée Mer Marine

The Musée Mer Marine is a private museum opened in 2019 in the Bassins à flot district, the former docks of Bordeaux's port. The building has three floors and about 7,000 m² of exhibition space.

The ground floor and first floor tell the story of navigation from Prehistory to the present day, with historic boats, instruments and models, such as those of the frigate Hermione and a Liberty ship. A gallery brings together French marine paintings, with names like Vernet, Boudin, Monet, Marquet and Dufy.

The second floor addresses the ocean and environmental issues, with works by contemporary artists. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures and workshops for children.

The surrounding neighborhood has restaurants and is close to the Cité du Vin and the Bassins des Lumières, which makes it easy to combine all three visits in the same day.
