About La Cité du Vin

La Cité du Vin is a cultural centre dedicated to wine, opened in 2016 in the Bacalan district, on the banks of the Garonne. The curved building, which evokes the movement of wine in a glass, has become one of the landmarks of northern Bordéus.

The permanent exhibition presents wine as culture: the vineyards of the world, the life of the vine through the year, winemaking, the six families of wine, the history of the civilizations linked to the drink and the saga of Bordéus vineyards. The visit is multisensory, with aromas, screens and audio in several languages.

On the 8th floor, 35 metres high, is the belvedere, with 360-degree views over the city, the river and the Port de la Lune. Admission to the exhibition usually includes a glass of wine from various countries or a non-alcoholic drink. There are also tasting workshops, the sensory route Via Sensoria, a restaurant on the 7th floor and a shop with wines from around the world.

The visit is of interest even to non-drinkers: the focus is history, geography and culture. Those who taste wines should do so in moderation.
