About CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux

The CAPC is Bordeaux's contemporary art museum, opened in 1984 in the Entrepôt Lainé, a warehouse built in the early 19th century to store goods coming from the colonies, such as sugar, coffee and cocoa, produced by people enslaved on the plantations.

The stone-and-brick building was restored between 1984 and 1990 by architects Valode and Pistre, with interiors by designer Andrée Putman. The large central nave, with arcades and a high ceiling, houses large-scale installations, and the side galleries display the collection and temporary exhibitions.

The holdings bring together conceptual and contemporary art from the 1960s onward. Exhibitions change throughout the year, and there are guided visits on weekends. A café operates on the top-floor terrace.

The museum is located in the Chartrons neighborhood, where wine merchants lived and worked. The surrounding streets, like rue Notre-Dame, have antique shops, boutiques and cafés.
