About Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes
The Musée de la Bataille des Ardennes tells the story of the German offensive of the winter of 1944–1945 and the liberation of La Roche-en-Ardenne. It occupies over 2,000 square metres across four floors on Rue Châmont in the town centre.
The collection includes about 120 mannequins wearing American, British, German, Belgian and Scottish uniforms, some 20 military vehicles, light and heavy weapons, photographs, documents and dioramas. Many objects were found on the battlefields around the town. An arms room holds nearly 90 rifles, pistols and revolvers, plus an Enigma machine. Another room preserves items donated by veterans.
The museum highlights the British role in the Allied counteroffensive of 3 to 16 January 1945, which liberated La Roche and the villages on the left bank of the Ourthe. Maps on the walls show the stages of the battle, and a film with period photos shows the town destroyed on the day of liberation.
In the basement there is a collection of vehicles, motorcycles and weaponry.
