About Lac et barrage de Nisramont
Nisramont lake is located where two rivers, the western Ourthe and the eastern Ourthe, join to form the Ourthe. The dam was built there to store drinking water for the surrounding valleys and also functions as a hydroelectric plant and treatment station.
The dam is 116 metres long and 16 metres high. The lake covers about 47 hectares and stretches some four kilometres between forested slopes, with fish ladders at the dam. The name comes from the village of Nisramont above.
The area is part of the Parc naturel des Deux Ourthes. Waymarked trails circle the lake, descend to the riverbanks and climb to viewpoints over the valley. It is one of the starting points for walks through the Ardennes around La Roche.
Near the dam there are covered barbecues, picnic tables and a restaurant with a terrace facing the river and the reservoir. In summer, the lake usually hosts fishing, stand-up paddle and kayaking, depending on the water level.
