About Parc des Topiaires
The Parc des Topiaires is on the left bank of the Ourthe, facing the castelo de Durbuy. It covers about 10,000 square meters and features more than 250 plant sculptures made from boxwood. Some plants are over 120 years old.
Topiary is the art of pruning shrubs until they become shapes. In Durbuy, gardeners spent more than 20 years trimming and shaping the boxwood. The result is a walk among crocodiles, birds, an elephant, a mermaid, human figures and a leafy version of the Manneken Pis, the emblematic statue of Brussels.
The route is flat and short, good for children. The park also houses the Herba Sana, a medicinal plant garden. From the terrace, the view takes in the river and the castelo d'Ursel on the rock, one of the city’s most photographed settings.
The park is part of the geobalade of Durbuy, the 2.5 km trail of the Geoparque Famenne-Ardenne, recognized by Unesco, which links the topiary to the old river arm and the Rocher de la Falize.
