About Halle aux Blés

The Halle aux Blés, the grain market, is one of the few public timber-framed buildings remaining in Wallonia. Documents mention the market as early as 1380, and the building took its current form around the 1530s. In 1639 it lost its rear half: it originally was about twice the size.

For centuries grain brought from villages in the Ourthe valley was traded there. The building is listed and stands out for its exposed wooden framework, limestone walls and high roof.

Today it serves as the DHAM, Durbuy History and Art Museum. The motto sums up the offer: yesterday's history and today's art. Part of it tells the town's history, another part displays works by watercolorist Marcel Lucas, and the rest of the space hosts modern and contemporary art exhibitions that change throughout the year.

The museum is on Rue du Comte Théodule d'Ursel, in the middle of the old town, and is a natural stop between the bridge over the Ourthe and the Place aux Foires.
