About Point de vue de Rochehaut

Rochehaut is a village on the high plateau above the Semois valley, in the municipality of Bouillon. On the edge of the plateau, near the church of Saint-Firmin, is the viewpoint facing Frahan.

From up there you can see the tight bend of the Semois, with the village of Frahan in the middle of the peninsula, the meadows by the water and the ridges covered in forest. The panorama is classified as exceptional heritage of Wallonia, and access is free.

The village of Rochehaut has streets of stone houses, restaurants with terraces overlooking the valley and shops selling regional products. Next to the viewpoint departs the little train of the Rochehaut animal park, and the Agri-Musée shows rural life of former times.

Trails start here to Frahan, at the valley floor, and to the other viewpoints on the ridges.

Practical information

Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.

How much time to set aside

Fifteen to thirty minutes at the viewpoint. One to two hours if you walk down to Frahan and back.

Best time

Late afternoon, when the low sun lights the valley. In October the slopes turn colorful. Early in the morning in autumn, mist often covers the river. Overcast days flatten the landscape.

How to get there

Rochehaut is about ten kilometres from Bouillon, along the road toward Alle and Vresse-sur-Semois. By car, park in the village and walk a few minutes to the edge of the plateau, near the church. From Frahan, a steep trail climbs up to the viewpoint.

Tip

Bring a zoom lens or use your phone's zoom to frame the church of Frahan in the middle of the river bend. If you eat in the village, ask for a table on the terrace with the view. In winter, the wind on the plateau is cold: bring warm clothing.
