About Frahan
Frahan is a village in the municipality of Bouillon set into a tight bend of the Semois. The river nearly surrounds the village and forms a peninsula covered in meadows, with forested slopes around it. The view of Frahan from above, from Rochehaut, appears on many postcards of the valley.
The houses are of stone with slate roofs, and some farms date from the 17th century. The church of Saint-Hubert, from 1843, stands in the centre of the village. Near the river you can still see tobacco-drying sheds, wooden barns used since the mid-19th century, when tobacco was one of the valley's crops alongside agriculture and forest exploitation.
Frahan is a starting point for trails. The Promenade des Crêtes follows the ridges between Frahan and Rochehaut, with views over the river. The Promenade des Échelles has metal ladders fixed to the rock and is for experienced walkers. An easier path follows the Semois to Poupehan.
The village is small and can be walked in half an hour; the interest lies in combining it with the viewpoint and the trails.
