About Lago Khami (Fagnano)

Lago Khami, also known as Fagnano, crosses a long depression of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. Most of it lies in Argentina, and the western end reaches Chile. Tolhuin is settled near its eastern head, which is the most immediate area for visitors to the town.

On the shore near the municipality, the lake appears among pebble beaches, mountains and Andean-Patagonian forest. The size of the water surface and the wind cause the water to change throughout the day. Observing the landscape from the shore does not require booking a boat trip.

The outing can be a short walk or a base for a guided activity. From November to March there is usually more daylight to explore the shore; between June and September the cold requires attention to clothing and access. Don’t expect calm water for kayaking: check conditions with the activity operator.
