How to get there
-
Aeropuerto Internacional Martín Miguel de Güemes (SLA) Salta · 180 km
-
Terminal de Ómnibus de Cafayate 1 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
The main commercial airport is SLA, in Salta. From the capital it’s about 186 km via Ruta Nacional 68, crossing the Quebrada de las Conchas. Buses use the Terminal de Ómnibus de Cafayate; stops at the rock formations require transport separate from the regular line.
How many days
Two days are enough for the museum, the town center, a visit to a winery and a circuit through the quebrada. A third day lets you visit the second winery without combining tastings and road time in the same period.
When to go
From April to June and from September to November, temperatures usually favor daytime outings. Harvest typically occurs between February and March. December to March has more rain; June to August requires warm clothing for cold nights.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
The museum and the cathedral are in the center. The wineries and the stops in the quebrada require a vehicle, transfer, or a booked tour. Separate tastings from any stretch you intend to drive.
