Cachi – Salta Destination Salta and Cafayate about 160 km from Salta

How to get there

  • Aeropuerto Internacional Martín Miguel de Güemes (SLA) Salta · 150 km
  • Ponto de embarque Ale Hnos — De Los Ríos

Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

Arrive via airport SLA and continue from Salta via rutas 68 and 33, on a route of about 160 km that passes through the Cuesta del Obispo. Buses use the boarding point Ale Hnos, on De Los Ríos street. The connection to Cafayate via Ruta 40 has gravel sections.

How many days

One night allows visiting the church, the museum and the plaza in addition to roadside stops. Two nights give more time for Parque Nacional Los Cardones and reduce the rush between Cachi and the next valley.

When to go

April to November is usually the driest period for road journeys. Between June and August, high-altitude nights are often cold. The rains from December to March call for attention when planning transfers.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

The core around the plaza can be explored on foot. For Parque Nacional Los Cardones, choose a vehicle or a tour with set stops. Those who use intercity buses need to organize the park visit separately.
