at your own pace.

Mendoza is in western Argentina, in a strip of irrigated oases near the Andes mountain range. The capital has tree-lined streets, irrigation channels along the sidewalks and plazas that help organize walking tours. Parque General San Martín and Cerro de la Gloria complete the urban route.

Luján de Cuyo brings together wine-producing districts to the south of the capital. In Perdriel, Bodega Norton presents its history and its wines in scheduled visits. Chacras de Coria has a smaller-scale center. Further west, Cacheuta and the embalse Potrerillos change the scenery to the valley of the Mendoza River and the mountains.

Maipú combines viticultural heritage with the life of a city in the Gran Mendoza. Plaza 12 de Febrero, Museo Nacional del Vino y la Vendimia, Bodega Trapiche and the museum of Bodega La Rural allow you to learn different parts of that history.

Tunuyán is a base in the Valle de Uco. Manzano Histórico and the Monumento Retorno a la Patria link the visit to San Martín's memory; the central square and Parque La Lombardía complete the urban route.

This destination brings together 6 cities: Mendoza, Luján de Cuyo, Maipú, Tunuyán, Tupungato, San Carlos.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

From March to April, travel often coincides with the harvest and the beginning of autumn. Vendimia celebrations are concentrated between February and March. From October to November temperatures are usually milder for walking. December to February can be very hot; June to August usually requires warm clothing, especially on mountain outings.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Five to seven days cover the capital, one day in Luján de Cuyo, another in Maipú and one or two nights in the Valle de Uco. Potrerillos and Cacheuta require a separate day because of tasting schedules. With less time, choose two wine areas instead of trying to visit the whole region.

Which city to stay in

In the capital, the area around Plaza Independencia makes urban walks and departures to other regions easy. Chacras de Coria offers a smaller base within Luján de Cuyo. Maipú's center brings travelers close to its square and historical heritage. In Tunuyán, the center eases meals and services; Los Chacayes places accommodation closer to the vineyards and the Manzano Histórico, with greater reliance on transport.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.

Frequently asked questions about Mendoza

Do I need to rent a car for this itinerary?

In the capital, some outings are done on foot. For wineries and the Valle de Uco, a car with a driver, a transfer or a booked tour helps group reservations on the same day. Those taking part in tastings should arrange their return without driving.

What is the difference between Luján de Cuyo, Maipú and Tunuyán?

Luján de Cuyo and Maipú are in the surroundings of Gran Mendoza and have long-established wineries. Tunuyán is further south, in the Valle de Uco, with vineyards close to the mountain range and the Manzano historical circuit.

How many days should I set aside for Mendoza and the Valle de Uco?

Allow five to seven days to combine urban tours, two wine areas and Tunuyán. Staying overnight in the Valle de Uco reduces back-and-forth between reservations and the capital.

When does Vendimia usually take place?

The main celebrations are usually concentrated between February and March. Dates change each edition; check the calendar and reservations before you go.
