About Jardín Botánico de Altura
The Jardín Botánico de Altura is located next to the Pucará de Tilcara and showcases plants adapted to the environments of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the Puna. The path runs between beds bordered by stones and brings visitors close to forms of vegetation that also appear along the roadside.
Cardones, other cacti, and plants used for food, medicinal or aromatic purposes are part of the collection. The arrangement of specimens helps compare sizes and shapes without needing to look for plants outside the visit areas. The garden is linked to university work carried out in Tilcara.
Combine the visit with the archaeological site, setting aside a specific time for the beds. The dirt paths require attention to footing, and plants should be observed without collecting or touching them. Bring water and sun protection, take breaks in the shade where there is space to circulate, and stay only on the areas indicated for walking.
